Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis submitted her resignation to President Obama this week. Solis was confirmed to the post in February 2009. Under her direction, the Department of Labor has significantly stepped up its regulatory and enforcement activities, particularly in the areas of wage and hour, worker misclassification and whistleblower protection. According to her resignation notice, Solis has decided to leave Washington to return to her family in California. A potential replacement has not been announced.
